Northeast
Engineers & Consultants, Inc. was contracted
to perform geotechnical analysis, surveying, site,
design, and utility planning at the proposed site
of the Metropolitan Career and Technical Center
in Providence, Rhode Island. The proposed development
consists of a multi-building campus that is located
within several blocks of former residential development
in the south side of the city of Providence. The
site consists of a total of 67 lots within portions
of seven blocks. The buildings include four small
classroom buildings, a gymnasium, an auditorium,
and the MET Central administration building. The
surrounding areas will be developed as playfields,
landscape areas, and paved parking.
The building will be two-story steel-framed structures
with masonry walls and concrete slab-on-grade
floors. The MET Central building will have a one-story
basement, while the other buildings will have
the ground floor level close to existing grade
with no basement.
NE&C's Scope of Work for this project included
the following:
- Field exploration that included the drilling,
logging and sampling of 31 borings ranging in
depth from 12 to 50 feet.
- Engineering analyses and utility research.
- Preparation of a report summarizing all results
of field exploration, research and engineering
analyses with recommendations.
- Site grading & design (including parking
and walkways).
- Drainage design (including underground detention
system).
- Utility design and permitting.
- Handicap Accessibility around site.
- Recreation facilities.
- Geotechnical design.
- Preparation of Site Specifications.
- Foundation designs.
