NE&C
provided design and permitting of the major expansion
of the American Shipyard. NE&C submitted to
the Army Corps of Engineers a proposal to deauthorize
the 18 feet channel adjacent to the shipyard.
The channel was obstructed by a causeway built
to connect Goat Island with the mainland. The
deauthorization was submitted for Congressional
approval through office of Congressman Kennedy.
The deauthorize area freed up over two acres of
space.
The project included a public access pier and
ferry terminal for the statewide intermeddle public
ferry system. NE&C designed the ferry landing
and all passenger elements. The ferry landing
was in a vulnerable location and required wave
fences, fendering, and landing protection.
The shipyard expansion allowed for ships up to
250 feet by 30 feet to be berthed and serviced.
